Heritage Christian Academy

Heritage Christian Academy maintains a tradition classroom approach to education using Christ-centered books and materials.  Our classroom teachers present academics to not more than 15 students per classroom.

Honor Roll

Each nine weeks when report cards are issued students will receive a reward and public recognition. There will also be a yearly honor roll for students who have excelled academically. Honor roll students will also be recognized.

A criterion for elementary honor roll is as follows:

Students making all A’s = Highest Honors

Students making 1 or 2 B’s and the rest A’s = High Honors

Students making all A’s and B’s = Honors

A criterion for middle and high school honor roll is as follows:

Students with a grade point average of 3.75- 4.0 = Principals List

Students with a grade point average of 3.9-3.5 = High Honors

Students with a grade point average of 3.4-3.0 = Honors

Middle and High school students may not have a grade of “C” or lower to qualify for honor roll.

Homework

We believe homework is a very important part of your child’s education. Incomplete homework assignments will lower your child’s grade and could result in an offense. Reading is appropriate and necessary homework each night for every child. In addition to this we have the following homework guidelines:

Kindergarten          10 - 15 minutes

° 1st Grade           15 - 25 minutes

° 2nd Grade          20 -30 minutes

° 3rd Grade           30 - 45 minutes

° 4th Grade           40 - 60 minutes

° 5th Grade           50 - 75 minutes

° 6th - 12th GradeFor every hour spent in class = 30 minutes outside of class

Please remember that children complete work at different rates. Homework is used to offer additional practice, reinforce classroom instruction, and enrich learning experiences. If you have concerns about homework, please contact your child’s teacher.

Make Up Work

Students may make up work only if the absence is considered excused. Students are allowed one day for each day of absences to make up work missed. Work not completed by that time will receive a grade of zero. Any test or quiz that is announced in advance may be required to be taken upon the day of returning to school. Homework assigned the day before the absence must be turned in upon the day of return to school. All long term reports, essays, or projects must be turned in on the date assigned with no extra days allowed due to absences.
